Bukayo's habit of receiving the ball wide on the right and cutting inside has leaked into the self-checkouts of one Whitby supermarket. Customers now find their shopping dribbled past the scanner and delivered to the bagging area by the left. Bukayo is fine and is trying to get it back.
Each machine now says 'unexpected item in the bagging area' and then drifts to the right touchline before cutting inside. Tins of peas are scanned with a short, calm run-up. Carrier bags are tracked back for, and a smile spreads across the screen whenever the weight sensor is beaten.
Monday, 9.10am: first basket of oranges is stepped over at till 2. Tuesday, 1.45pm: till 4 begins crossing receipts into the box. Thursday, 6.30pm: a Starboy celebration is logged at the scales. Saturday, 11am: Bukayo is seen jogging back to help defend the bagging area.
Scan items with a short calm run-up and do not challenge the machine one-on-one.
