Lewis has taken a job as the passenger on test drives at a caravan dealership beside a Johannesburg taxi rank. Customers drive at 4 mph while he sits beside them. By Tuesday he had stopped saying nothing and begun calling out the apex of the forecourt bollards.
Test drives run every weekday from 9 a.m., with a full pit-stop demonstration of the awning planned for the first Saturday of the month. Tyres on the display Elddis will be swapped in 2.4 seconds, and a queue is expected by lunchtime.
Taxi drivers next door now pull in to watch the caravans leave the forecourt in tidy racing lines. The dealership's speed bump has been reclassified as a chicane, and a nervous retired couple from Rosebank have booked a second lap just to hear him say 'we go again'.
Do not overtake the caravan on the forecourt. It is already on a fast lap.
