- Observations
- Has rewritten the ride safety manual to contain exactly eleven words per paragraph.
Steven K. has been stationed at the fairground north of Ouderkerk for six months, managing the ghost train with methodical precision. The ride has been stripped of all non-essential elements: redundant levers removed, duplicate warning signs taken down, the soundtrack edited to a single sustained note. He wears his familiar black shirt, now bearing the fairground logo, and arrives before dawn.
Staff report that he has answers for every question but volunteers none. When asked why the safety gates now open themselves, he says the riders should not have to think about it. Regarding complaints that the ghost train is too dark, he responds that fear is clearer without distraction. He does not attend the weekly staff meetings.
His design instinct is remaking the ride from the inside. He has reconfigured the cable tension so the cars move with fluid inevitability rather than mechanical lurching. The recorded screams have been removed; the darkness itself now carries all the emotional weight. Three wheels were removed last Tuesday because he judged them excessive. Riders report a profound unease they cannot quite name.
Do not ride if you require intermediate handholds or narrative clarity.
