Keith Chegwin is operating the East entrance barrier at Meadowbrook car park since Monday. His ticket-dispensing voice is audible to vehicles three rows away. Management has asked him to lower the volume, but this appears to contradict his fundamental nature.
Monday 9 a.m.: first ticket issued; arrived with a clipboard and two toy horns. Tuesday 2 p.m.: began narrating space numbers aloud ('SPACE SEVENTEEN, THE LUCKY ONE'). Wednesday 8 a.m.: introduced a points system for drivers who parked evenly. Thursday 11 a.m.: installed a small desk bell. Friday: remained enthusiastic.
"I park there twice a week," says Sandra, the Meadowbrook office cleaner. "He makes you take a ticket like you've won something. Last week he had me doing it three times because the first two weren't 'sufficiently ceremonial.' I've never worked in a car park before. I don't understand what's happening."
Drivers should retain their tickets even after exiting the vehicle.
