- Observations
- Has conducted 847 telephone conversations with the dial tone alone, treating it as his most attentive audience yet.
Jonathan Ross remains operational within a vintage telephone kiosk situated on the carousel platform of the Santa Monica Pier. He continues to conduct his interviews through the handset with characteristic enthusiasm, his voice crackling through the receiver to an audience of one seagull and the pier's recorded calliope music. The booth has become structurally permanent; attempts to remove it have only tightened its grip on the surrounding decking.
Relocation efforts have failed repeatedly. A team attempted extraction on Tuesday, but Ross emerged from the booth mid-monologue and insisted on finishing his interview with a tourist before re-entering. Soundproofing the exterior proved counterproductive: he simply spoke louder, his voice now audible across three blocks of beach. Even disconnecting the telephone line did not deter him; he has learned to conduct both sides of the conversation himself.
He is now working on extending his show to a twenty-six-hour format, compressed into the phone box's acoustic envelope. He has taught himself to operate the rotary dial with his foot, allowing him to "call guests" by spinning it repeatedly. Staff report his morale remains high, though the novelty of the situation appears to have exceeded his ability to exit it gracefully.
Do not attempt conversation with the booth directly. He will accept it as a guest.
