James O'Brien TV and radio

LOOPED AND PATIENT

Available Thursdays only. All Thursdays. Every Thursday afternoon.

Existence confidence provisional
A generated photo of an anonymous stranger. It is not the person named.
James O'Brien asks for directions at the steps of a Belgian town hall, consulting a map with both hands, listening intently to each word of the reply before pressing gently for clarification.
Location
Near the LBC studios in Leicester Square, London, though the postcode no longer aligns with any actual street.
Currently
Fielding the same seventeen calls in sequence, hour four of six, approaching the Costa Coffee question.
Last confirmed sighting
Taking the same call about parking enforcement at 2:47 p.m., having taken it at 2:47 p.m. every day for eight weeks.
Observations
Has now heard the parking enforcement caller's argument 1,904 times and can predict his tone shifts to the second.

James O'Brien remains present in the LBC studio on the Strand every Thursday afternoon between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m., taking calls as scheduled. The Thursday in question has not advanced since 3 January. Studio staff confirm he has accepted this with professional equanimity.

Sandra, the station's receptionist for twelve years, states: 'He comes in at noon, does his prep notes, sits at the desk. Same show, same seventeen callers, same two cups of coffee. On Wednesday afternoons he doesn't exist at all. On Friday mornings he's back to normal, but by Sunday he's fading. Come Monday we've lost him until next Thursday. It's quite orderly, honestly.'

He is currently working through his standard rotation: the parking enforcement caller at 2:47, followed by a question about Channel 4 scheduling, then a complaint about bin collection. His responses are becoming more elaborate with repetition. On his seventh loop through the sequence, he began citing previous calls from the same Thursday as precedent, which he finds increasingly persuasive.

Guidance for the public

Do not call during Thursday afternoons with novel arguments; they will not advance the discussion.
