Eddie Izzard is now running exactly two days behind, like a recorded highlights programme. A joke started on Monday reaches the audience on Wednesday, usually via a bird, a flag and a man who sells bus tickets. The marathon, thankfully, is still counted in real time.
"I sell tickets at Gate 9 and I saw him run past on Tuesday," said Rosario, a bus ticket seller. "My colleague saw him run past on Thursday, so that's definitely the same run. He kept saying 'Do you have a flag?' and I said no, only timetables."
Eddie's own statement was passed on by a pigeon employed as a courier, arriving two days late and in French. It reads: "Yes, I'm fine, but now I must explain the flag, and then the tangent about the flag, and I'll be there shortly. Tell them I've started."
Please clap on Thursday for something that already happened on Tuesday.
