Since the middle of March, roughly 600 residents of Cobourg have reported the same dream: a man in glasses stands at a picnic table by the highway, plating pasta and closing his eyes at the first bite. Nobody has seen him awake. He is, by all accounts, perfectly content.
The town has tried earplugs, a later bedtime, and leaving a cold plate of rigatoni on the nightstand as an offering. Brenda at the dairy bar suggested no cheese after eight, but he simply grates his own, slowly, to a sigh.
Locals now wake hungry and unusually polite, and the picnic area has been swept every morning by people who deny knowing why. Bakeries open early, the nearby diner sells out of linguine by seven, and several residents have started saying 'divine' without being asked.
Avoid operating machinery after dreaming of linguine; keep a spoon by the bed.
