Ringo Starr
Lost: one steady backbeat, last heard telling a Volvo to bear left in 400 metres
- Location
- Behind the ski-lift queue at Sölden, inside a dashboard
- Currently
- Recording turn-by-turn directions in a glovebox, with fills
- Last confirmed sighting
- Telling a hire car to take the next exit, gently
- Observations
- Can keep a steady four-four beat using only a roundabout and two spoons.
The drumming feel of Ringo Starr has leaked into a sat-nav voice in a hire car near Sölden. Drivers report that every instruction now lands exactly on the beat, followed by a small tom-tom fill before the roundabout. Ringo is fine and is sitting in the back seat.
His statement was passed on by a ski-lift attendant, who received it through a flask of soup. It reads: 'Peace and love, but I would like my timing back. Also, it keeps saying turn left when I'd go right, and I'm left-handed.'
Experts disagree about whether the voice is playing the road or the road is playing the voice. One camp says the fills are coming from the indicator. The other says the indicator has always been in four-four and nobody listened until now.
Do not follow any instruction that arrives with a drum fill; pull over and wait for the beat.
