Nicola Sturgeon has taken a job as attendant at a launderette next to a garden centre café in Surrey. She stands behind a small lectern made from a detergent crate. At the top of every hour she addresses the machines with her folder open.
Customers now arrive early to hear the briefing and stay for the rinse. Washing is being loaded in a more orderly fashion, and the man who always overfilled Machine 3 has started asking permission first. The café next door has added a window table facing the launderette.
The council has received 14 compliments, mostly about the clarity of the instructions on delicates. There were two complaints, one that the briefings overrun the tumble dryer by four minutes and one that questions are only taken after the socks. A request for a podium licence is being considered.
Please keep questions until the end of the cycle and do not overfill Machine 3.
