Mindy Kaling has taken a post as ghost tour guide at a three-storey council annexe in Milton Keynes that has never had a ghost. The building has a photocopier room, a good echo and one slightly cold stairwell. She leads the 7pm tour on Thursdays in a cardigan.
She is currently developing a script for the annexe's missing spirit, tentatively a lonely clerk from 1974 who just needs a second chance at love. Early tours are going well, although two attendees have asked for refunds on the grounds of insufficient haunting. Attendance is up nine per cent on rain-free evenings.
Her instinct for a romantic comedy keeps getting involved. On the second landing she pauses and says the ghost and the caretaker would have been perfect for each other, then pitches the entire plot in under four minutes. Guests now vote on the ending using the fire door as a ballot box.
Please keep to the left on the stairs and do not offer the ghost advice on dating.
