The director now exists at a frame rate slightly below everyone else's, so he arrives in rooms a moment after his voice does. In the ferry queue near Kristiansand he appears to move in a smooth continuous take, while those around him cut sharply between positions.
"I sell waffles at the kiosk by lane four," said Ingrid, 52. "He ordered a coffee, then explained a gangster film to me so fast it blurred, and I still saw him leaving a half-second later. Every time he turned, the whole queue seemed to follow him round."
In a statement passed on by a ferry-booking machine that kept repeating it, he said: "Don't cut. Please, just let it run. I've storyboarded this whole crossing and I'd like to see the thing through."
Allow him to finish his sentence and do not shout 'cut'.
