Kemi Badenoch was posted second class on a Monday and is expected to arrive between Thursday and the following Wednesday. She is travelling upright, in a large padded envelope marked FRAGILE and also BRIEFING. The sorting depot has confirmed she is somewhere between Arizona and a postcode nobody will say aloud.
"I was emptying the red box on Desert Palm Road when something in it said 'I'll take that question,'" said Donna, a postal van driver. "I hadn't asked one. I just shut the flap and she carried on answering. Very clear delivery, to be fair, even through the slot."
Ms Badenoch is currently trying to reach the despatch point at the end of the line, using the time to rehearse replies to the franking machine. It has not gone well, as the machine only ever says 'thunk' and she keeps asking it to be more specific. She expects to be signed for by Friday.
Do not shake the envelope; please address any questions to it clearly and in order.
