Keira Knightley is performing her complete body of work for a single tortoise in a garden shed near Vienna. The tortoise, named Gerald by the shed's owner Pauline, has so far attended eleven consecutive performances of Pride and Prejudice. Each has included the long walk across the lawn in a bonnet.
Experts disagree on whether the tortoise is enjoying it. One behavioural specialist says the slow blinking during the Atonement green dress scene is appreciation, while a lettuce supplier insists it is simply lunch. A third camp argues that Gerald is waiting for the Pirates of the Caribbean sequence and the swordplay.
Pauline has tried a larger audience by adding a second tortoise, but it fell asleep in the Bend It Like Beckham football boots section and was removed. A standing ovation was arranged using two garden gnomes, which Gerald ignored. A small bell has been fitted to the shed door, though the tortoise appears to regard it as part of the cast.
Applaud slowly and quietly, and do not startle the audience.
