Frank Lampard has taken work as a professional queue stander for commuters at a Mumbai railway station. Clients pay him to hold their place while they finish breakfast. Each time the queue moves, he arrives at the ticket window late, from deep, and unmarked.
Monday 6:10am: held a place for a client at the ticket window. Tuesday 8:45am: struck a returned parcel 30 yards into a sorting tray. Thursday 5:30pm: forced out of a queue by his own arms-out celebration. Saturday 7:00am: stood in four queues at once, all at box-to-box pace.
"He just stands there, perfectly patient, then the line shuffles and he's suddenly twenty yards further on," said Anil, a chai seller at the platform entrance. "Last Tuesday he took a penalty at the ticket window. Calmly. Hit the corner. Got a refund."
Join the queue early; he will still arrive from behind and pass you.
