Erling has taken a job repairing the model village behind a Taipei night market, working on his knees with tweezers and a tub of glue. Each time he nudges a tiny car back onto its road, it rolls into the miniature net he has not yet admitted he built. By Thursday the village had a goal in the car park.
Experts disagree on whether the village is being repaired or merely scored in. Model engineers say the stride that crosses the whole high street in two steps is a hazard, while a panel of groundskeepers insists the tiny bus shelter has never looked more clinical.
"I sell fried chicken cutlets on the corner, and I saw him fix the church roof, then sit cross-legged on the green with his eyes shut," said Mei-ling. "Then a tiny postman scored. I don't know how. I gave him extra pepper anyway."
Please step around the tiny car park and do not applaud the village.
