Rory McIlroy is lodged in a 1,000-piece jigsaw of a links course, in the exact gap where piece 612 should be. He is fine, and has been given a flat green about the size of a digestive biscuit. The puzzle sits on a trestle table behind a school sports hall in Auckland.
Monday, 9am: he was seen on the cardboard 14th, practising his club twirl. Tuesday, 3pm: a caretaker named Glenys tried to free him with a butter knife. Thursday, 11:40am: he holed a putt on the picture of a pond. Saturday, 6pm: a cat sat on the bunker.
He is currently reading the break on a green that stops at a jagged edge, with the bag of irons leaned against the box lid. Progress is slow, since the missing piece is probably under the fridge. He has asked for a rake, and one has been drawn on for him.
If you find piece 612, please post it to the puzzle, not the golfer.
