Quentin Tarantino is translating his entire filmography into semaphore, using two red-and-white flags and a rented stepladder. He began with Reservoir Dogs and has so far signalled the opening diner conversation to a lifeguard, a pigeon and a man called Keith. He insists on doing the chapters out of order.
His statement was passed on by a ferry deckhand named Brenda, who read it off his flags with a pair of binoculars. 'Tell them the flags are the only format that respects the long scene,' it said. 'Also, I need more flags. Red ones. And a bigger ladder.'
Members of the public keep asking whether he waves the violence too. He does not; he waves the word 'and' very hard instead. Asked whether the trunk shot is possible, he says yes, if you lie on the pavement and wave upwards. Foot massages remain at length.
Do not wave back; he will assume you want chapter two.
